| Seriol Remote Terminal Units (RTU)
S1000 Programmable Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) from our Seriol range for industrial monitoring control and data acquisition.
S1000 Seriol
The S1000 Programmable Remote Terminal Unit is a member of the
Seriol range of intelligent Remote Terminal Units (RTU). These data acquisition / controllers are programmable in Sercal for simple or complex control, monitoring and data logging applications. Designed to meet the demanding requirements of remote locations our remote terminal units are used by utility and service companies for monitoring unmanned locations. Each S1000 controller can process over 2000 discrete input/output signals along with additional data from a communications link. All modules are mechanically protected by a metal envelope. This, together with careful board layout and circuit design enable the modules to meet mandatory Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) requirements of the European Community (EC). All plant input/output connections are taken from within the base of the unit thus preserving the attractive appearance of the outstation. LEDs are provided on the modules for diagnostic purposes.
S1000 Seriol Telemetry Controllers and Power Supplies
The S1000 is available with an 8 or 16 slot base
unit on which mounts the power supply, controller CPU, modem(s) and input/output interface modules. The controller CPU is fitted with a local RS232 programming port and two local/remote
RS232 communications ports. The controller has a memory capacity of 265KB for application program and data storage. A comprehensive watchdog monitors processor operation while an
on board analogue to digital converter monitors all the vital power supplies, signal levels and on board batteries. This diagnostic data can be examined locally or remotely. Outstation
address, serial link communication type and speed along with other configuration information is stored in EEPROM.
S1000 Seriol Communications
The remote communication is achieved with communications
interfaces and modems mounted in or adjacent to the rack (dependent on communications media). A range of interfaces and protocols enable the following communications types to be
supported.
Local communications (RS232, RS422, RS485)
Dial-up communications (PSTN)
Broadcast communications (Radio, Microwave, Fibre Optics, Leased Line and private wire)
S1000 Seriol Plant Input / Output Interfaces and Plant Termination Assemblies
These highly specified modules have excellent noise
immunity and will meet the EMC requirements of the EC. All are equipped with LEDs showing the status of digital I/O or whether analogue I/O is within range (e.g. 4-20mA).
The modules are mechanically polarised thus preventing them being inserted into the wrong slot and have a "write on" front label for user identification of I/O channels. On power up the processor module recognises the I/O modules which are present and automatically configures itself to suit. I/O modules can be removed and reinserted under power.
The analogue I/O modules use individual channel Analogue to Digital converter's with 14 bit (+ SIGN) resolution (with computed feedback on the analogue outputs) to give total isolation and high accuracy (±0.05% at 20°C) over a wide temperature range.
The digital input module accepts volt free contacts and provides status as well as counting up to 20Hz.
The digital output module provides volt free contacts capable of switching substantial loads. However for some applications, separate interposing relays may have to be used.
I/O modules are available in the following I/O capacities :-
Digital Inputs 32, 192
Digital Outputs 32
Analogue Inputs 8, 16
Analogue Outputs 4
Programming Language
All SERIOL outstations are programmable in SERCAL, a time sharing process control language. This compiled language supports Boolean, sequence and flowchart logic, floating point and integer arithmetic, data handling, control loops and communications. Programs are prepared on an IBM PC compatible and then downloaded to the controller remotely or locally. Annotation and comments can be used to improve readability. Information is available to allow program upload/download over all normal communication media.
S1000 Seriol Enclosures
The S1000 meets its specification without the need
for additional enclosures which makes it ideal for integration into cubicles, cabinets and enclosures that form part of a complete control and monitoring system. We are also able
to offer the S1000 in a standard fiberglass enclosure for for the eight slot base unit.
Above eight slots there are many factors that effect the enclosure design such as
- Power requirements
- Battery backup support time
- Battery recharge time
- Interposing Output Relays
- Cable glanding area
all this may necessitate a custom enclosure which we can quote for or put you in contact with a third party system builder.
